Talented director, Brad Swenson of BlackBoxBlue, and I created this music video together for the song Going To New Mexico. We’re both Virgos and we fit the stereotype: critical, perfectionistic, and detail-oriented! Needless to say, we spent a lot of hours pouring over footage and nitpicking edits by a frame or two. After 5 months of bouncing ideas back and forth, well…I think we got something for you to see. We set out, just the two of us on location, to create a parallel story line between the dreamer and the dream: the city girl longing to escape someplace where she can forget her past for a while. We used only natural light. Due to time constraints we only got as far as Globe, AZ…but you can still pretend it’s The Land of Enchantment. We got really lucky with some of the shots and had that distinct feeling that we were in the right place at the right time. How else do you explain the train that whizzes by at just the right moment, or the accidental blurred lights, which later became a central motif, or stumbling upon the dilapidated corral only minutes after I project the idea that I’d love to find an old wood fence? We had a great time making this video for you! We hope you enjoy it!
I’m super excited to be hitting the road with my namesake and doppleganger, Jackie Bristow! I have so much respect for her as a songwriter and a hard-working independent musician.
